The place
What it islike
The old quarry closed in 1974 and the plots along its rim were sold off cheaply to anyone prepared to build on a one-in-three slope. What went up over the next fifty years is an unplanned museum of regional modernism, all of it facing the city.
The stone is still under everything, which is why so many of the houses are made of it — and why they all sit on rock rather than fill.
