Cliff Road House

Six rooms in a line, all of them facing the sunset.

Cliff Road House along the bluff at dusk

The house

Brekke & Aal refused a corridor. The six principal rooms run in a single line along the bluff, each opening into the next, so you move through the house rather than past it. Every one of them faces west.

It is forty-one metres long and one room deep. There is no north-facing habitable space in the building.

What makes it

  • Six rooms in an enfilade, no corridor
  • Forty-one metres long, one room deep
  • Every principal room faces the sunset
  • Native bluff planting, no lawn
